SOLUTIONS Sealers for Stone & Tile

How to seal Tesselated Tiles

  • Tesselated tiles have long been used to create a classic,
    hard-wearing floor.
  • The tiles are usually either vitrified clay or porcelain
but can be wood or ceramic.
  • Because the tiles are porous, they can be very difficult to clean
    and subject to staining.
  • We recommend 2 coats of Pristine to give stain resistance
    and to make cleaning easier.

Initial Cleaning

  • Once the new tiles are laid and grouted it is important to remove all grout and cement residues. This should be done with D-Scale.
  • Existing sandstone should be cleaned with D-Grease. A concentrated D-Grease solution will remove most problem stains.
  • A special floor-washing machine with liquid suction will produce best results.
  • Ensure floors are rinsed thoroughly after cleaning.

Sealing

  • Apply the first coat of Pristine with a lambswool applicator or sort, white cloth.
  • Allow 1-2 hours to dry.
  • Apply the second coat directly with a soft, white cloth, removing any excess sealer as you go.
  • The dense nature of the tiles will mean that if the sealer is applied too heavily it will leave streaky marks on the surface.

Maintenance

We recommend cleaning with warm water and a small amount of a neutral cleaner such as Natural Clean.

Always Test

Because every type of tile/paver is different we recommend that a small test area is done to ensure that the appearance and protection is satisfactory. Allow sealers at least 24 hours to cure before testing.
